The Summer Palace of the Romanian Queen Maria, Princess of Edinburgh, and the Botanical Garden
The complex has been designed as a summer residence of the Romanian Queen Maria. It includes many individual buildings – villas, a Renaissance house, a chapel, a nymphaeum situated amidst lush botanical gardens and patios with exquisite decoration. The botanical garden extends on an area of 194, 000 sqm, and has unique collections of over 3,500 species of plants – annual spring and summer flowers, alpine and aquatic vegetation, tropical and subtropical species of plants, flowering and evergreen shrubs, etc. However, undeniably the greatest attraction in the Botanical Garden is the collection of cacti and succulents. Nowadays the Botanical Garden is a national monument of culture as well as a protected area visited by thousands of tourists every year.
